i'll take a burger, hold the diarrhea.

the fda, always acting in the public interest, has refused to release the name of the restaurant chain, possibly responsible for the recent outbreak of salmonella illness related to eating raw tomatoes.
i decided to do just a little sleuthing to find a possible culprit.
first off, we found out that it was tomatoes.
then, i remember finding out about this thing in the first place from headlines stating that mcdonalds had decided to pull tomatoes from it's menu.
next, the fda announces that people are getting sick from eating at different outlets from the same restaurant chain. so, it's a chain. this illness has occurred in multiple outlets from the same restaurant chain in 17 states.
i just happened to pick through the news and found out about a boy, who got sick with salmonella in some middle of nowhere town in washington called omak. thanks to google, i found that omak has a mcdonalds, an arbys, a taco bell and a burger king. there are also 2 more mcdonalds close by, whereas there are no more of the other chains nearby. from what i remember of arbys, there ain't no raw tomatoes on any of those meat-tastic sandwiches of theirs.
so, let's narrow it down to the others, but mcdonalds, playing it's hand early, makes me very suspicious that it's them.
whoever the culprit, this episode has supposedly destroyed several aspects of the tomato industry, from the growers, to distributors, sellers, restaurants, fast-food chains and whoever else that put's them in stuff for us to eat. it also appears that the fda is trying to protect whatever chain it is that's responsible for this mess, but this protectionism, while helping the guilty company is screwing everyone else in the industry at a time when things are already bad for our mutual economy.
