tom cruise
the spectacle surrounding tom cruise and his scientology dealings is nothing short of ridiculous. i watched a recent video on youtube that has everyone calling him a loon and don't see what's so loony about it.
first off, anyone who knows anything about video editing can tell that the video has been chopped up like crazy. seriously, cut-up comes to mind, as in william s. burroughs and brion gysin cut-ups. the video is quite literally a cut-up, but the cut-up technique hasn't been used, in this instance, to create a new artwork from chaos, but to give the appearance of the interviewee as being chaotic and schizophrenic. it works very well in this instance. also, notice how you never hear any questions posed by the interviewer. this and the cut-up technique give the illusion that mr. cruise is simply ranting.
second, what he says in the interview. he is speaking in a highly animated manner about some vague utopia. has anyone who has called tom cruise a freak ever been to a church? really? has anyone ever heard the nonsense that comes out of christians' mouths? christians talk about going to heaven after they die and then lakes of fire. they talk about how men are better than women and can prove it with their beloved book. they talk about turning water into wine. they talk about prophets walking into the sky and on water and of bushes that talk. this goes for all of the semites - christian, jew and muslim. these religions are based on weird rants by men who claim to be the mouthpiece of someone named "god." talk about egotistical.
i am in no way defending tom cruise or scientology. i don't care to know enough about either subject to be an expert, but the way the interview has been set up makes me believe that this was an ambush. they ask questions that wind him up, let him act kooky for a bit and then edit it all together to make him look like a total moron. anyone who feels passionate about anything in this situation could be made to look like a fool.
he may be crazy, don't know and don't care. my energy is too important to me to get worked up over someone that i don't care about. and in the end, if he is crazy, he's just as crazy as everyone else in this declining empire.
