i was able to get a good rate on a sleeper cabin, which was really, realy cool. i brought my laptop and had just picked up susperia and a few other dvds and took advantage of the wall socket in the little room.
being just a few months after september 11, there were many people who took the train as they were afraid of flying, including a family from new york, who had a family sized cabin. it's inhabitants were 3 kids and a husband, who was on his way to meet up with his wife in los angeles. someone forgot to tell this guy that it takes a while to get from one end of the continent to the other on train. he would not stop complaining. if you ever choose or are forced to take the train across the country, don't whine about how slow it is. it's not like hopping on jetblue and being in sfo in 5 hours.
i woke up one morning in kansas and we were travelling through some sort of snowstorm. it was one of the oddest sensations to wake up, first of all in a bed on a train and then look out the window at nothing but white. we were heading full speed through the storm, which kicked up all the snow on the ground and essesntially made a wall of white on the lower section of the train, where my room was. it took a minute or so to figure it out. didn't get a pic of that one though. :(
the destination was san diego, where the temperature was 80 degrees and i went swimming in december.
