libertarians vs. reality

i can't stand libertarians.
they have a newspaper here in new york called "serf city." out of curiosity i picked it up and was suddenly reminded of the naivete of this vestigial political, social and economic movement.
libertarianism might have worked in thomas jefferson's day, when one could live completely separate from one another, conceivably never having to interact with another human being. taxes were low or nonexistent, with endless amounts of available land, free for any free white man to do as he seemed fit. cities were small and life was much less complicated, with little regulation. but once you have people living in close proximity to another - where one's decision affects another either directly or indirectly, a libertarian fundamental argument- unalloyed property rights is null and void. how on earth can any sane or intelligent person try to push this idea in new york city, where people are to the left, right, in front and in back, above and below and those people's decisions affect my life directly, so fuck your idea that "i should be able to do whatever i want with my property."
i was recently visiting my mother in ultra-rural pennsylvania and got into a discussion with her husband. the conversation was on the homeless and that if these people aren't going to bother taking care of themselves, then there is no reason why anyone should take care of them and if they should freeze on the street in the middle of winter, then so what. so i informed him hat the reason why you don't do this is because if you have dead people all over your streets, that is what's called a health hazard. and also about how having dead people all over your streets is just a bit unsightly and could maybe keep iowans from wanting to make their way to 34th street, maybe they will go to disneyworld this year. yes, there is a reason why cities tend to be more democrat and have higher taxes, because it takes tax dollars to keep the mighty wheels of capitalism well greased.
then they love to go on about how much they love the constitution.
how many of our constitutional rights have these assholes given to george bush to flush down the toilet? the patriot act - the single greatest threat to my rights in our lifetime - could never have happened without the support of these guardians of the justice and freedom.
when there was a call to impeach bush for this naughty behavior, where were these defenders of the american way?
if we look at the libertarian end of the republican party, we see exactly where their loyalties are. greenbacks. money is the one thing that ties the 2 sides of the republican party together and ultimately the only thing that republicans really care about in life.
forget jesus, forget the constitution, forget religion and the always idealized and preached, but never put into practice idea of a small government that doesn't interfere with the lives of us, ordinary americans. in the end, it's all about no taxes, which equals "more money for me to spend on whatever bullshit i want".
they argue that taxes are a vestige of european socialism and the era where america flirted with socialism - the era of the new deal. and that taxes do nothing other than hold back our mighty american capitalist system, except of course when public tax dollars can be used for private centures, like sports venues.
ok dearest libertarian, let me spell it out for you, as you are too dumb to do it yourself. if you are so dead-set on eliminating taxes then please refrain from the following:
don't buy any food, subsidies paid to farmers by your government artificially keep the price down. oh and gas too!
don't drive on any roads, freeways or bridges. commie tax dollars pay for that.
don't fly anywhere. airport = tax dollars
and let's get rid of the military.
oh, you're gonna love this one - let's eliminate all law enforcement. cops are commies, only trying to devoid me of my god-given right to do stuff.
oh and let's get rid of those football stadiums and ballparks. lots of tax dollars there. no more superbowl!
fire department, police force, subsidized research will all have to go.
the list goes on and on.
so, if you want any of these things you'll have to take money out of your own pocket to pay for them, privately. and i'm sure you'll want all of them, right. you'll at least need a police force to protect all your money. oh and they're gonna need a road to get to your house. oh and if your money catches fire, you'll need a fire department to put it out. they need to eat too. and watch football. they need gas. and to visit their parents in seattle. hope they don't have to walk, or ride a horse - see you in a few years! and surely we need a military to protect the "homeland", all this wonderful crap, right?
all that is gonna come out of your pocket, one way or another.
