i am currently vacationing on the west coast.

this year is no different than the last 3, 4 or 5 in that i have taken amtrak out west to see friends and family.

took the lake shore limited to chicago, met up with some friends for brunch, got on the empire builder due for portland, which is where i am now. i arrived a few hours ago and am staying at a hostel here.

this seems like a very livable town. the population density here is very confortable. i am sure that will change with all the yuppy condos rising, but it still feels very nice here. of course it does though, i'm on vacation. everything is perfect when i'm on vacation, even when the train broke down in montana and that other time when it broke down in the rockies and started sliding back down the mountain. that was perfect too.

already, i've bought a bunch of records and reverted to my usual self by signing up for some ox-fam-esque organization as, when i am in a non-new york environment, i actually enjoy banter with strangers and get suckered into these types of things. some times i even give money to hobos, who i know will head straight for the liquor store, just to help them along.

this gallery is the first set, of what will be several galleries relating my my current vacation. i've alredady taken almost 200 pictures. there are going to be lots and lots of pictures out train windows. yeah, i know boring. well i've got some truly amazing images coming in the next gallery, including, if i can get it off of my video camera, one of the most beautifully surreal visuals i've ever witnessed. just east of glacier national park, there was this amazing storm cloud that seemed to be racing us to the mountains from the plains. it was one of those thunderheads, pitch black. anyway, i pointed my video camera out the window and caught this white stallion that had gotten stuck on our side of the fence that normally keeps cows and horses off the rail road tracks. so anyway, i'm looking out the viewfinder and low and behold, with this black thundercloud and tall, snow covered peaks of glacier national park a white horse charges in the opposite direction for, what must have been half a second. it was like i was watching a fellini movie. anyway, that's in the next gallery. this one only has boring old pictures of new york, ohio and chicago.

zzzzzzz.
