yo, i can do that too

one thing i've noticed about new yorkers is that while having the reputation for being individualistic, they are actually sheep. when one unit of the flock does something, all follow, without a second thought.
when a magazine tells little girls that this season is about wellingtons, the order is obeyed, fearfully. and another season, when the magazines tell them that it's no longer about wellingtons, but heeled zip-up boots worn under denim, the wellies head for the closet or trash bin. i've noticed this sort of thing happen on a single day, where i see tons of girls wearing the exact same item, with only variations in color and design, where they hadn't the day before.
another example is the notorious spontaneous honking that tourists find just so quaint. try listening to it on a daily basis and then tell me you still like it. a group of drivers are waiting patiently for a pedestrian/car/bicycle to pass before they move on. one of the drivers loses patience and starts honking. this gives all other drivers the right to lay on their horns as well. suddenly an entire block is filled with deafening noise. everything stops until they are on their way. regardless of how irritating it may be to everyonein their proximity, the need for others to suffer this individual's inconvenience takes precedence and must be felt by all. there will be no letting up until they have their way, after having to wait 20 seconds to get through the light.
recently i've noticed two alarming trends in new york's car community. one is the installation of horns, and i say this without hyperbole, that are as loud as train sirens. i hear them out my window at all times of day. there was a time when the same automobile, every day at the same time would drive up bushwick letting go with the horn every 20 seconds or so, just to alert everybody in the fucking world that they were coming up the block and to get out of their way. so, in true new york fashion, increasing numbers of tards with their massive suvs are installing these things and the noise pollution is only getting worse.
another trend related to this is cars driving through red lights. i see these suvs treat red lights like stop signs. they stop briefly and commence through the intersection as if red lights were optional. the other day i saw someone cross the double line as cars were stopped at the light in front of them, drive down the wrong side of the street and coast through the intersection, without even slowing down. i can guarantee you that this behavior has been influenced by bicyclists and their notorious disregard for red lights.
cuz in new york, if i saw you do something, so can i.
