cut and run

so george bush's plan to rescue our failing economy is to cut taxes. this is the republican answer to everything. cut taxes. taxes have continually been cut since the reagan years, which is why we are borrowing so much money. the republicans don't use cutting taxes as a temporary economic stimulus, they use it as the cornerstone of their fiscal philosophy. if taxes are cut, borrowing increases, which is part of the reason why our economy is in it's current dilemma. eventually we are going to have to pay all this money back(with interest), and depending on the inflation rate and status of the dollar vs. world currencies, this could spell double disaster.
the american government is falling into the same trap that has caused the current economic crisis. it is living on credit. but what does george bush care. he'll be gone in less than a year. it'll be someone else's problem.
according to certain polls on what matters to americans for the coming election, americans rate the economy as the most important issue and the war in iraq as a secondary issue. these results are an example of how to skew and sway opinion with strategically placed questions. the war in iraq and the american economy are not separate. they are joined at the hip. it costs money to wage war. the war is costing the american government $275,000,000 per day, which ads up to over $1,000,000,000 every 4 days. meanwhile the united states' largest state budget is $14,000,000,000 short. 14 billion dollars is 50 days of the war in iraq. that's about a month and a half of war. this war is fiscal suicide.
most economists within the federal government have long dismissed outside economists' warnings on how america's fiscal policy is a castle made of sand. these outside economists stated early on that we would enter a crisis due to our laissez-faire policies and sure enough, they were right. many of these critics have also said that what we are currently witnessing would be only the beginning of a general decline for the united states in the world economy. so it goes.
